Grantville is the easternmost station on the four stop extension that resulted in the creation of the Green Line by connecting the Blue Line at Mission San Diego across to the Grossmont Transit Center. It opened on July 8, 2005. The station has the standard two side platforms on a concrete elevated guideway high above a 238 space parking lot beneath it. There are 500 more overflow spaces before events at Qaulcomm Stadium, a two stop ride away. Each platform is extremely modern with relatively low light-blue meshed walls and a blue understructure holding up blue frames that cover the platform for its entire length. Good portions of the platforms have a semi translucent roof for covering for waiting passengers. Each platform has its own entrance, although the platforms have concrete over the track area and no fence between them so passengers are allowed to crossover the tracks. These entrances each consist of a light blue elevator shaft that has a staircase spiraling its way down to street level. There is an additional staircase that spirals its way down from the eastern (front) end of the Santee-bound platform.
